DEER / CAR ACCIDENTS
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IF YOU HIT A DEER!

IF YOU HIT A DEER:

  •  Move your vehicle to a safe place with hazard lights on. If you must leave the vehicle, stay out of the road & out of way of on coming cars.
  • Call Police. Alert authorities if the deer is blocking traffic & creating a threat for other drivers. If there's injuries or property damage you may need to fill out an official report. Reports are helpful if you file a claim.
  • Document the incident. Take photos of the street & surrounding area, vehicles and any injuries you or your passengers sustained. (Take several of photos. This may help your claim be easier to process) If there were any eye witnesses, take down their account of what happened and get their contact information.
  • Stay away from the animal. An injured deer could harm you.
  • Don't assume your vehicle is safe to drive. Double check to make sure your car is drivable. Look for leaking fluids, broken headlights, loose parts. If your vehicle seems unsafe in any way, call for a tow.
  • Call your insurance company to file a claim after you and your vehicle are in a safe place.
  • Then last but not least, Call Tecumseh Autobody 517.424.0.1.2.3. We will take it from there! All you need to provide us with is a claim number, we will secure your vehicle and get it ready to be inspected by an insurance adjuster.
